About Us

our history

Everything starts with a story. And with a person: Rui Batista.

Most of us have childhood memories connected to nature, family, and traditions. For Rui, one of the most special was accompanying his grandparents to the orchard, right here in Peral. During harvest time, he helped pick the fruits. And his grandmother, with all her tenderness, always shared the most beautiful and delicious pears with him. They were simple yet magical moments—memories of authenticity, affection, and connection to the land.

It was in that same place, decades later, that Rui returned to bring a dream to life: creating Pera no Peral – Thematic and Interpretive Park of Pera Rocha. To share the same joy and authenticity with others, allowing families to create new memories and visitors of all ages to discover the tradition of harvesting and the charm of experiencing nature genuinely.

Our Mission

Pera no Peral was born with a clear purpose: to unite entertainment with learning. Here, every visitor is invited to discover the value of agricultural work and, in particular, the richness of cultivating Pera Rocha, the greatest symbol of Portuguese fruit growing.

The history of this fruit dates back to 1836, when Mr. Pedro António Rocha accidentally discovered a different pear tree on his property in Sintra. Recognized as a unique species, it spread throughout the Oeste region and became a true national icon. Today, more than 95% of national production is concentrated here, and the parish of Peral is the most important center.

It is in this setting that the park comes to life: a space where the past and present meet, showcasing the uniqueness of Pera Rocha and the importance of agriculture to our cultural identity.

our
values

The park was born as an innovative project at the national level, with the mission of giving visibility to a genuinely Portuguese fruit and the tradition that supports it.

More than a leisure space, Pera no Peral is a place of connection—between past and present, between people and nature, between traditions and memories that are renewed with each visit.

We value:

  • Authenticity, by showing the Pera Rocha cycle as it is experienced by farmers.
  • Education, by passing on to new generations the respect for the land and the hard agricultural work.
  • Sharing, by creating experiences that bring families, visitors, and the community closer together.
  • Sustainability, by promoting practices that respect the environment and preserve nature for the future.
